Wellmont Health System has agreed to participate in the OnePartner Health Information Exchange (HIE), a regional community initiative which enables the electronic exchange of health information across organizations to provide more timely, efficient and effective patient-centered care to the community.
Wellmont's participation in the OnePartner Health Information Exchange now provides inclusion of both major hospital systems in the region and further strengthens the level of collaboration and coordination of care provided to patients who see multiple providers for their care.
The ability for physicians to receive immediate electronic communication on patients who have received services at Wellmont facilities is crucial to ensuring efficient and effective transitions of care from the hospital to the primary care setting. This reduces the potential for errors and duplication of services, providing significant cost savings and improved patient satisfaction.
"We are pleased to participate in OnePartner because it represents another way physicians and other medical professionals can work together to assist patients, regardless where care is delivered," said Bart Hove, Wellmont's interim president and CEO. "It also continues our extensive and longtime involvement in developing and using electronic medical records to enhance the quality of care patients receive."
Wellmont most recently adopted the Epic electronic health record, which empowers caregivers at the health system's facilities - and other locations across the country using that platform – to have access to a patient's care history at Wellmont. This electronic health record enabled the health system to create MyWellmont, a secure portal for patients to review a significant portion of their medical record.
"Wellmont's participation in the OnePartner HIE provides the community the benefit of improved safety, quality and coordination of care," said Dr. Scott Fowler, President and CEO of OnePartner. "We are excited to work collaboratively with Wellmont on this project which is truly leading the nation in implementing innovative solutions to improve lives."
