frequently asked questions
What is OnePartner Research?
OnePartner Research (OPR) is an all-new approach to Clinical Research. Our Members form a cooperative partnership with centralized services such as investigator training, coordinator training, study acquisition and management services.
We connect each Member's EMR with our Central Data Repository (CDR) located in the nation's only Tier III commercial data center in Southwest Virginia. Specialized analytics tools allow our analysts to match our Members patients with clinical trials. When a Member's patients match an active trial protocol we alert their physician-investigator, who then discusses the trial with their patient.
Investigators acquire study opportunities without the substantial infrastructure investments.
What's the origin of this concept?
OnePartner Research originated with Holston Medical Group (HMG). Located in Kingsport, Tennessee, Holston Medical Group is a 150+ physician multi-specialty organization, led by physicians. HMG adopted an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in 1996 and began a clinical research program the same year. HMG's
clinical research program relies on state-of-the-art technology and continual process development. The HMG clinical research program earns about $2.5M
annually.
In 2006, HMG established a sister company, OnePartner. OnePartner transforms HMG experience and intellectual assets into new businesses. Current
OnePartner projects include the Nation's only Tier III data center and OnePartner Research.
How is OnePartner Research different?
Two words - "cooperation" and "vision". These define our project, and set OnePartner Research apart from
old-school Site Management Organizations (SMO) and Contract Research Organizations (CRO).
Cooperation
The SMO and CRO organizations are the middlemen of clinical research, typically taking half (or more) of every dollar the pharmaceutical companies pay for clinical studies for their services and giving very little
back to either the investigators or the advancement of drug development processes. Status quo is profitable for these organizations, and they take
harvest after harvest without putting anything back. OnePartner Research is not driven from the middle, but from where you are. We are investigators joining together to share resources, processes, training and opportunities.
Vision
We're building tools that will bring greater value to pharmaceutical development than the middlemen can even imagine. These organizations have maintained the
cumbersome and archaic processes for decades, always failing to take up the challenge of dramatic improvement now possible through new technologies.
Working together, our Members will share trial opportunities, and share in revenues from these services - while building a better, more efficient future
for the entire industry.
We're looking for physicians and organizations that want to make a difference, while developing additional revenues for their organziations.
How can I find out more?
OnePartner Members can come from large or small physician organizations. Our enrollment partner, Park Dansan is the point of contact for groups
considering Membership. The folks there will be pleased to provide an introductory overview of the project for your organization.

Are revenues from Clinical Trials taxed?
Yes. Payments from Sponsors for study services are taxable income. OnePartner is responsible for taxes on income from services it provides and
physician-investigators, or their organization are, in turn, responsible for taxes on income for study services rendered to OnePartner. OnePartner will
obtain a W-4 from each investigator prior to the first contract assignment. OnePartner will issue form 1099 annually to each investigator, as they are
considered "independent contractors".
Does OnePartner pay the investigator or the investigator's organization?
OnePartner will issue payments directly to investigators or to the investigator's organization, at the discretion of the organization. There are advantages to each approach. Our experience suggests payments to the organization afford more flexibility and enable distribution methodologies that dramatically
increase the organization's enrollment capacity. Our recommended methodology for internal distribution of these revenues is provided during the
Investigator training session.
Do you have physician references?
Yes. Please read the FAQs on "What is OnePartner Research?" and "What is the origin of this concept?" and continue through the end of this brief section to learn how you can best reach these references.
These brief topics will help you understand why our physician references work with Holston Medical Group. The concept is new, and new members are coming in on the ground floor, but our experience with clinical research, our capabilities and our resources are all proven and well-established.
Respecting our physician member's privacy
As we're ramping up Membership, there are frequent requests to speak physician-to-physician about the success of our program. We want to facilitate this
important connection and feel it is very important for physicians considering the benefits of Membership. We want to provide this connection in a way that does not create a tremendous burden for our physician references, as there are many physicians interested in the program.
To this end, we've established a growing Frequently Asked Question section, where we address the more common questions and we host regular teleconferences
with physician references online. A schedule for these teleconferences is available online. If there are questions that prospective members are not
comfortable voicing in the teleconference, we will be pleased to arrange private physician-to-physician discussions.
Few professions involve the scheduling challenges physicians face on a daily basis. From experience, we know that a physician-to-physician call is likely
to result in a frustrating game of voicemail tag. Therefore, we encourage prospective members to call upon OnePartner staff to schedule any private
discussions with referral physicians. OnePartner will arrange a mutual time for both physicians and avoid such frustrations. Please help us avoid creating a burden for our members.
Does OnePartner provide training?
Yes. All physicians interested in investigator opportunities will attend a two hour session. This session does not duplicate training the investigator
receives from established sources. We explain how studies are distributed and managed through OnePartner. We review some very practical recommendations
for facility preparation and revenue distribution within the Member organization. Lastly, we point out some very useful techniques to ensure our Members
receive the number of studies they can support. The training session is provided during evening hours via videoconference or onsite (where practical).
How does OnePartner handle patient consent?
In our process, the physician introduces patients to study opportunities. We analyze patient data and identify patients that data suggests might match a
particular protocol, and then we notify that patient's physician of record. The patient's own physician introduces them to the study and then our
coordinator is called in to explain the study process more fully to the patient.
